Pipe Organ

Would anybody help me locate a pipe organ in Miami?
I am interested in learning to play the pipe organ. At this point I am trying to find a church in the Miami area that has one. Can anybody help me find one, or does anybody know a website that has some kind of list of registered pipe organs in this particular area? Thank you in advance.

Arizona Pipe Organ Cactus 20 Seeds – Lemaireocereus CACTUS: Cactus, the common name for a family of desert plants. The plural is cacti or cactuses. Most species bear sharp, needlelike spines, which protect the plants from foraging desert animals. Cacti are famed for their ability to resist drought, which they owe to the fact that moisture from inside the plant evaporates very slowly through the plant’s skin. Cacti grow in hundreds of different sha… |

The Organ Pipe Cactus: $11.98 Distinguished by its slender vertical branches, which resemble the tubes of a pipe organ, and growing to the imposing height of 15 to more than 30 feet, it’s obvious how the organ pipe cactus got its name. In the United States, these spectacular and intriguing plants are found exclusively in a small area of the Sonoran Desert in the southwestern corner of Arizona. With a landscape marked by sharp, rocky slopes and daytime highs in the summer reaching 110 degrees Fahrenheit, the region is inhospitable for most ordinary life, whether plant or animal. But the organ pipe cactus is far from ordinary. Although it is the most common columnar cactus, it is so unusual in the United States that it is only one of three cacti to have a national preserve established to protect it. In this regard, it joins a select group of plants–including Joshua trees, redwoods, and sequoias–upon which that honor has been conferred. In this beautifully illustrated, large-format book, David Yetman provides an in-depth and comprehensive look at these intriguing and picturesque plants that most Americans will never have the opportunity to see. Chapters explore their ethnobotanical uses, their habitat, their distribution, and special conditions required for their germination, establishment, growth, and survival. Yetman also places the organ pipe in perspective as a member of a genus with at least twenty-three species, ranging from the prostrate Stenocereus eruca of Baja California to the 50-foot high giant S. chacalapensis of the coast of Oaxaca. |

Organ Pipe: Life on the Edge $3.98 Deep in the heart of the Sonoran Desert lies an oasis of ebony mountains, golden poppies, stately saguaros–and the organ pipe cactus, "a prickly octopus turned on its head." A terrain where one learns to pay attention to the details: the tracks of a sidewinder in the sand, the tiny eggs of a cactus wren, the flash of a vermilion flycatcher against the azure sky. Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument lies in southwestern Arizona on the Mexican border. It is an isolated park that for Carol Ann Bassett has long been a place of solitude–a silent refuge where she often camped out alone to capture the natural rhythms of the desert. Photographer Michael Hyatt hiked through Organ Pipe to visually document its subtle beauty in the Ajo Mountains and the valley of the Ajo, and at Quitobaquito, a rare desert oasis. Few visitors may brave Organ Pipe during summer, when the temperature can reach 120 degrees, but for Bassett and Hyatt the searing heat is but a harbinger of rain, when normally dry arroyos surge with rust-colored water and desert tarantulas come out to mate. Bassett introduces readers to Organ Pipe’s cultural heritage as well: Spanish missionaries, Anglo settlers, and the Tohono O’odham and the Hia Ced O’odham people who still travel there to gather cactus fruit during Hasan Bakmasad, "saguaro moon." She also considers the changes taking place throughout the park, including the onrush of immigrants passing through in search of better lives in the United States. This small, lyrical book is a sensitive reflection on the heart of the Sonoran Desert. It reminds us of the beauty to be found in unexpected places–and of our intimate connection with the wild. |

Understanding the Pipe Organ: A Guide for Students, Teachers and Lovers of the Instrument $54.98 The pipe organ, an instrument whose origins date to ancient Greece, is prominent in the development of secular and church music, and its builders were as artistic as the composers like Bach, Pachelbel and Handel who played them. Although it is technical in nature, its design, descriptions, and language are directed to organ students, their teachers, and all persons who love the organ. Tubipora musica Pipe Organ Coral – Medium $49.99 Pipe Organ Coral ( Tubipora musica ) is a soft coral with hard exoskeleton. The exoskeleton is made up of calcareous tubes that are characteristically red to maroon in color. The polyps that extend from them are white, tan, grey or green and look like flowers with feather petals. Very rarely, the polyps may have smooth “petals” or centers of a different color. There are many different shapes and forms of Tubipora musica that some argue may lead to them being separated into different species. Pipe Organ colonies may resemble other corals like Clavularia , Briareum , Pachyclavularia , and Alveopora . Pipe Organ Corals have zooxanthellate algaes that require moderate to high light but they also filter-feed on small particles in the water. While they do benefit from some target feeding and supplements, it is best to keep them in a well-established aquarium with lots of microfauna for them to feed on naturally. They should be in an area with moderate to high flow. These corals do not have “sweeper tentacles” used to sting other corals and are non-aggressive. They may be vulnerable to more aggressive corals as a result and should not be placed near any aggressive colonies. |

All the Stops: The Glorious Pipe Organ and Its American Masters $17.98 For centuries, pipe organs stood at the summit of musical and technological achievement, admired as the most complex and intricate mechanisms the human race had yet devised. In "All The Stops, New York Times" journalist Craig Whitney journeys through the history of the American pipe organ and brings to life the curious characters who have devoted their lives to its music. From the mid-19th to the mid-20th century, organ music was wildly popular in America. Organ builders in New York and New England could hardly fill the huge demand for both concert hall and home organs. Master organbuilders found ingenious ways of using electricity to make them sound like orchestras. Organ players developed cult followings and bitter rivalries. One movement arose to restore to American organs the clarity and precision that baroque organs had in centuries past, while another took electronic organs to the rock concert halls, where younger listeners could be found. But while organbuilders and organists were fighting with each other, popular audiences lost interest in the organ. Today, organs are beginning to make a comeback in concert halls and churches across America. Craig Whitney brings the story to life and up to date in a humorous, engaging book about the instruments and vivid personalities that inspired his lifelong passion: the great art of the majestic pipe organ. Hear the sounds of some of the pipe organs featured in ALL THE STOPS |
